Research Awards

Research awards promote the research of academic scientists within the first four years of joining the tenure track or research faculty of a North American University at the time the award is conferred. The awards, in the amount of $35,000 each, are presented annually and are fully funded by Bruker, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Waters Corporation.

How to Apply - Award Applications

Eligibility. Open to academic scientists within four years (at time award is presented) of joining their first tenure track faculty position or equivalent in a North American university at the time award is conferred. For 2024, the 4 years are July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2024. Applicants may not have previously received an award under this program. Applicants must be members of ASMS.

Selection Process. Recipients are selected by a secret ASMS committee comprised of members serving staggered two-year terms. The selection process is not connected to or influcenced by the funders.

Fiscal Requirements for Award Winners. The awards of $35,000 each will be made to a university in the name of the selected individual and for the researcher’s exclusive use. In accepting this award, the institution will agree not to charge overhead on the funds.

How to Apply. 
First, complete and submit the online application. Second, insure that required letters are sent by email. Applicant's dossier is not considered complete until required letters are received by info [at] asms [dot] org. Letters must be received by November 30 deadline.

Deadline for complete dossiers is November 30. 

Items Needed for Online Application

  • Research proposal, including references, figures, etc. (three pages max.)
  • List of current research support
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Two letters of support (provide the name and email of letter writers). Actual letters to be submitted directly to info [at] asms [dot] org.
