Presidents of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry
       
The ASMS started as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Committee E-14 on Mass Spectrometry in 1952.  Officers of the ASTM E-14 were elected at the Pittcon meeting in 1952 and the first official meeting of ASTM E-14 was held in Pittsburgh in 1953.

In the ASMS, presidential terms run from July 1 to June 30.  An election decides the Vice-President for Programs every two years.  The elected individual serves 2 years as VP for Programs, then 2 years as President, then 2 years as Past-president.  The dates shown above only delineate the years served as President.
